Storm Water Drainage System for Vizhinjam Port

The Vizhinjam International Transhipment Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport is a project taken up by Kerala Government in PPP model with M/s Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited (AVPPL). It is designed to cater to container transhipment and break bulk cargo. Howe Engineering Projects (India) Pvt. Ltd (An Adani Group Company) is the EPC Contractor to AVPPL. The Development will obstruct outfall of Storm water in to Sea from the areas upstream of the Port site. In order to avoid flooding & create a route for this storm water coming from 1200 acres of upstream catchment, a drainage system is to be planned & designed. Howe has awarded this challenging Work of designing the Storm water drainage system of the Port and its upstream Catchment area. Challenges include interpretation of historic data on rainfall, study of the catchment area with hilly terrain & understanding the outflow mechanisms existing prior to the development of the proposed Port, development of I-F-D curves for 25 years’ return period, Structural design of Drains, Culverts & Outfall structures, etc.
